For those curious folks interested in a deeper and broader exploration of science and technology, UU Casper’s is launching a new program called “Lunch With TED.”  Bring a sack lunch to eat while we watch a 20 minute TED Talk video and participate in a facilitated discussion. The April Lunch with TED will feature “Why Bees Are Disappearing” by Marla Spivak. Honeybees have thrived for 50 million years, each colony 40 to 50,000 individuals coordinated in amazing harmony. So why, seven years ago, did colonies start dying en masse? Marla Spivak reveals four reasons which are interacting with tragic consequences. This is not simply a problem because bees pollinate a third of the world’s crops. Could this incredible species be holding up a mirror for us?

TED is a nonprofit organization begun in 1984 and is devoted to spreading ideas,  usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). The project began as a type of conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today, TED Talks cover a wide and interesting range of topics — from science to business to humanity relations.
