2025 MLK Day – Realizing the Equality State!

On January 20, 2025, ServeWyoming will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Remembrance/Wyoming Equality Day, to honor Dr. King’s legacy.

“On Monday, we will answer Dr. King’s call to serve and make a difference in the lives of Natrona County residents,” said Shelly McAlpin, Executive Director of ServeWyoming. “It is a resourceful way to meet local needs; volunteer service is a powerful tool that unites us around a common purpose and builds strong communities. We are putting the core American principles of citizenship and service into action.”

The “day on-not off,” will begin with the “Unity” student art display at Art 321 (321 W. Midwest Ave), which is also the starting point for the march at 10:00. The celebration will continue at 11:00 at 1st United Methodist Church (302 E. 2nd St).

Join us during the celebration for live music, our keynote speaker, Kendyl Terry, worship leader, speaker, teacher, musician, High School career guidance administrator, father will bespeaking on unity in our community, together with his wife Ginger Terry a mental health therapist at the Healing Place in Casper. Mrs. Terry has her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Take the Pledge of Nonviolence, and participate in service through donations to Project Homeless Connect. Service project will follow in the basement of the church to help benefit those experiencing homelessness. Please consider contributing to the project by bringing everyday supplies for basic needs – shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste. Consider providing supplies for homeless pets as well – dry dog food, bedding. Supplies can also be dropped off in advance at Serve Wyoming, 330 South Center Suite 317.

Following the celebration, you are invited to explore the Casper Freedom Trail, a community project highlighting the civil rights movement in and around Natrona County, view the he full length Casper Freedom Trail video online under ServeWyoming.org or at one of our viewing sites around the city, and continue to learn more about the rich black history of Casper through the online story map.

UU Casper will collect donations and store them in our building through December. We have been told that Project Homeless Connect does not need more oral hygiene and feminine hygiene products, but is still looking for other everyday supplies such as socks, gloves, deodorant, and pet supplies.
