Discussion Forum: Three Types of Silence

An elder and child in quiet conversation, sitting on a labyrinth.

In his fantasy novel, The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss beautifully describes three types of silence near the beginning of the novel. These types are: the hollow silence, the expectant silence, and the awkward silence. Perhaps there are many other types of silence. We will use this idea as a jumping off point for a facilitated discussion to wrap up July’s theme Spiritual Listening: Hearing the Calls of Soul and World.
