Responding in Love: Surviving in a Fear-full World

As Rev. Gilbert Horne said “Thunder on the right requires lightening on the left.” Using readings, music and a homily, guest speakers Geoff and Rebecca Hunt will inspire us to use love to turn our faces to a world that others fill with fear. A youth RE program and childcare are available during the service, and refreshments and conversation follow. Everyone is welcome!

Changing the Words: Jason Shelton Responds in Love

In response to painful feelings of exclusion expressed by UU’s living with disabilities, UU music minister, Jason Shelton, changed the title and words of of his well know song “Standing on the Side of Love” to be more inclusive. The UUA followed Shelton’s lead by changing the name of its interfaith social justice program of the same name to “Side With Love.” Words have power. We can unknowingly make someone already made to feel invisible by our culture feel even more invisible by our language and metaphor. But does getting hung up on metaphors distract us from efforts to truly improve accessibility and inclusion?  And how far do we go? A time for discussion will follow the presentation. A youth RE program and childcare are available during the service, and refreshments and conversation follow. Everyone is welcome!

Regrets

Do you have regrets? Regrets about petty crimes toward life, or toward those you love, or about the insensitive things you did or said as well as the kindnesses you failed to perform?  In the privacy of your mind do you indict yourself?  Beyond owning them, guest minister Rev. Jacqueline Ziegler will reflect on what else we can do about or with our regrets.

Through June 2018, as part of UU Casper’s Care N Share program, we will be collecting monetary and dog or cat food donations for the Casper Humane Society.

Finding Balance Within The Flow

We live in tumultuous times when the daily headlines evoke feelings of cascading down a torrent of whitewater with no end in sight.  Sometimes our personal lives seem out of control, offering no chance to catch our breath.  How can we find our balance within the ceaseless flow of events?  The eastern religion of Taoism and experience of wu wei may guide us safely on our way. Click on the service title for a link to the full text of Rev. Rhodes’ sermon.
