The archery range sits on the southwest side of Casper Mountain on land that has a longer, sometimes surprising history. In the late 1800s the surrounding area hosted small mining ventures and even short-lived settlements. One such place was Eadesville, a mining town established around 1891 during a small gold rush on the mountain. These towns disappeared quickly, but they were located near the area where the archery range now sits.

According to accounts of the mountain’s recreation history, Natrona County Parks Director Bob Adams helped guide development of an archery range on the mountain during this period, alongside the creation of Nordic ski trails and other recreational infrastructure. The range eventually became known as the Robert L. Adams Memorial Archery Range, likely named in honor of Adams for his role in establishing the facility.

Today the range is a county-managed recreation area of roughly 112 acres, offering two courses—an animal (3-D) range and a target range—as well as a small campground and shelter. It remains free and open to the public as part of the county park system.
