UU Casper History

With roots in Casper dating back to the 1950s—and in continuous operation since the early 1980s—the Unitarian Universalist Community of Casper has long been a gathering place for religiously liberal and spiritually curious people. We come together to ask deep questions, learn from one another, grow spiritually, and work together to make a difference for good in our community and beyond.
Through the years, UU Casper has met in homes, rented rooms, and borrowed space in other churches. In 2015, we found a permanent home in the heart of Casper—a warm and welcoming space that reflects our commitment to acceptance and inclusion for all.
For most of our history, UU Casper has been guided by the dedication and creativity of its lay leaders. Our first minister, Rev. Jug Brandjord, served until retiring in 2007. In 2011, we began a shared ministry with Rev. Leslie Kee, whose inspiring messages, pastoral care, and leadership enriched our community for over a decade. Rev. Kee retired from her ministry with UU Casper in early 2023, and her legacy of compassion and thoughtful service continues to shape who we are today.
Now, as in much of our history, we continue to be a lay-led congregation—drawing on the talents, wisdom, and commitment of our members to create vibrant worship, engaging programs, and a welcoming space for all who seek spiritual community.
